A few years ago, I was interviewed for "Sports Videogames", a book published in 2013 featuring researchers from MIT. The section in particular is "Why Sports Videogames Matter to Their Players: Exploring Meaningful Experiences in Playographies" (There's a partial preview on Amazon; I'm "Ben" in the article).
I was reading through the article and I wondered: Why gaming (directed to you guys, of course)? What appeals to you, not just as a hobby, but even as someone who records gameplay for fun?
For me, its the social aspect. One of my all-time favorites is Left 4 Dead 2, which I would play regularly with a group of friends, and it was incredibly entertaining. While I know I will always be of zero notoriety in the LP world, I enjoy having a chance to interact with the few people that I have, and also the person I record with (since he's a decent distance away and out schedules don't really allow us a lot of time to hang out in person).
Back to the question: Why gaming? I'd be curious to here your stories.

I don't know. I've been playing AND recording them since I was a little boy.

For me most of the video games are just like TV and other media. I don't really like any current (nor old) TV shows because they lack a lot. I'm not saying majority of video games are life changing experiences but at least they have something else going on in the, other than just lousy plot twists. And the other part why I play video games is to seek for those life changing video games. There are plenty of video games that are better in plot than many books. There aren't many, but a good bunch at least.

I like gaming as a medium because so much more can be done with it than any other type of media. Interesting graphics, many different ways to have the player interact with the game world, the ability to play with other people either local or online... (just to name a few) There are actually a ton of things I'd like to name here, but I keep finding counter arguments to those points, so I'd rather not turn this into an endless conversation... (even if that's the point of a forum )

I've learned how to transfer them to DVD since I was a teenager.

What was the initial draw, though? Has what draws you to specific games (or the hobby in general) changed for you?
