What is your favorite Orchestral or Solo Instrumental piece?

Mine would have to be:

(Danzon no.2 - Marquez)

or

Serenade For Strings Op. 11: II. Marcia - Wiren
(The single youtube video doesn't do it justice...)

I like the snake charmer, but I'm more in the mood for christmas music, so I'd say this one's pretty good Smiley

Anything composed by Mozart, Beethoven, or Tchaikovsky I love. I'll pretty much adore anything deep, epic, and melodic. A lot of people forget that without Orchestral/Classical/Symphonic/etc. music, we wouldn't have ANYTHING we have today. They're by far the most talented musicians in musical history, next to swing bands and early jazz artists who came much later.

Some of my favorite compositions (although popular, cliche, and over-used in television and cinema) are Moonlight Sonata, 1812 Overture, Beethoven's Symphonies #5-#9, Requiem, Adagio For Strings, In the Hall of the Mountain King, and Lux Aeterna.

There's so much that I enjoy it's impossible to list it all  Smiley
Mahler is definitely one of top favorites though, mainly 'cause I'm a sucker for super epic things usually. Here's a very short clip from the ending of his 8th symphony (nicknamed the symphony of 1000 since the score called for over 1000 performers in total.)

Not live but I love Solti and Chicago so meh. Check out Simon Rattle with his crazy youth orchestra if you want to see a live version.
