I am rather disappointed that nobody has mentioned Muse in a thread about epic music. They are quite possibly the greatest band i have ever saw live.

First time i ever saw them was in London in 1999 when they had Coldplay as the support band, was rather dismayed when Coldplay headlined  Glastonbury a few years later and Muse were far down the running order. When Muse headlined a few years later they were being pretty much written off before they went on stage for not being able to handle a prestigious spot but produced one of the best performances of the decade.
