AVI is meant for uncompressed video, mp4 is meant for web broadcast.

 objection

Why is Bandicam not listed as an option? It can do the same recording stuff that FRAPS AND Camtasia can do, but in a single, light-weight program.

I heard that you can use Hauppauge HD PVR to record pc gameplay. Frankly I never tried it but I'm curious to do so. Also everytime I try to record with some other program I get crappy 480p out of my videos.

Depends on the model. The new Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition can easily record PC gameplay as it has HDMI inputs in it. I've recorded PC gameplay before just fine. The older models you need a bunch more equipment. You can also record PC gameplay with the Roxio HD Game Capture Card Pro since it has HDMI ports on it, and the Pro model can apparently stream as well. I myself use an HD PVR 2 and it does the job nicely.
