Title: Official Forum Rules
Post by: Maceman on November 24, 2007, 07:32:29 AM
By using these forums you agree to follow these rules.

1) No posting spam. Use common sense please.

2) No fighting with other members. Any posts which contain things which can be construed as fighting or deemed may cause fighting will be deleted and you could possibly be banned. Play nice please.

3) Don't double post. If you posted then you shouldn't post again in the same topic until someone else has replied. You can always edit your posts to add additional things if needed. You may only double post if time has past and you are afraid someone will not see your edit.

4) No links to websites that either you own or contain video walkthroughs. If you want to make a post with a website but you are unsure if it is allowed, PM an administrator.

5 ) Try to keep cursing/swearing to a minimum. Our bot will censor some words, but please... this is a site for people of all ages!
Admins/Mods will use swearing at their own discretion, and just because they do, doesn't mean you get to.

6) There should be no links to or attached pornographic images, nor those same types of images in the signature and avatar. Users caught doing this will be banned, no exceptions

7) No piracy talk of any kind. This includes links or methods to obtain software illegally or by any other means aside from paying for it or obtaining it legitimately. Emulation discussion is allowed, but providing information as to obtaining ROMs is not permitted.

By creating an account and using this forum, you expressly consent to follow these rules and allow the site staff to carry out consequences in the event of a violation. Terms of use are not negotiable, and subject to change at any time, without warning.

Does this include messages through the PM system and if they are by a "staff" member.

If a user is abusing the private messaging system by spamming, etc let me know. Otherwise the rules mainly have to do with forum posts where there is a "Report to moderator" link under each post.

I believe we should set one more rule in place for those new people here,

5) Please ensure to use proper spelling and grammar at all times on the posts you make, not chatspeak or l33tspeak or anything besides proper english, we wish to improve people not diminish their intellgience.

These rules apply to all members of these boards, no one is exempt from this rule as i do not wish to see any chat or L33t speak present here understand?

I think the forum will censor most. This also sort of lies in the same category of "no fighting".

We dont really need any heavy rules for this. Talking about this sort of stuff isnt violating any rules or laws. Not all roms are "illegal"ish, ISO's are a file format, torrentz is just a way to transfer any kind of file, cracks arnt illegal, modchips arnt illegal.

that's a good point. plus, if you own the original game, I think you are able to have the ROM and/or backup version of your game. (if I'm not mistaken) Nevertheless, talking about the said backup, seems to relatively innocent. (Especially if it is in regards to like tutorials or recording DS games and you don't have a Wii)

There isn't a DS slot, they'll probably make an adapter (probably a wifi connection between the two) though, just like they did with the Gamecube for GBA, and N64 for Pokemon Games which were popular as f*ck, and the Super Gamboy on the Super Nintendo. It's only a matter of time.

I'd phrase that differently. What you're saying would mean that I can be a dickhead to anybody in the 'west'. Gosh, that's a lot of people.

"Keep your racism to yourself, this is not the place for that."

Haha. You did word it wrong Vergil. According to your rule, as long as the person is of my own culture, i can call them every name under the sun. If someone is harassing you, definitely make sure to PM a mod of some sort. Much of it tends to be in good fun, but if there is actually something being said that is meant in a derogatory way... don't try to take care of it yourself. Things can escalate out of control and become something that can make you look just as bad as the person harassing you. Mods are there specifically to ensure things on the forum don't escalate and stay clean for the most part. Basically, mediators with a level head who aren't directly involved that can step in and make sure escalations don't occur causing problems.

Icy wishes,
FrozenFoxy

We have the ability to read anyone's PM's if we have to. We usually don't, as reporting a PM is essentially the same thing. Don't take matters into your hands if someone is harassing you. Report to a moderator and we will handle it. You can also add users to your block list if that helps.

"Try to..."? What about "No cursing/swearing"? Or better: Why not?

We are a site for ALL ages, including adults. Cursing and swearing in a proper setting and in the right context is just fine as long as nobody is directly being offended.
We don't need a rule for every little thing. Use common sense.

Inactivity only affects you if you are a director/apprentice.

First of all, this should have been in another topic.

Second, the report link is for abusive content that violates the rules. Not being able to modify your post outside the initial time window is not grounds to report anything to the staff.
In the case of not being able to modify, you may double post.

I double posted on accident on this topic: http://www.gameanyone.com/?p=viewtopic&type=walk&id=7403 (http://www.gameanyone.com/?p=viewtopic&type=walk&id=7403). Is there any way I can delete the post? If not, is it punishable?

Yes, it is punishable by Death if Skorch sees it, but don't worry I have deleted it so I guess that means you owe your life to me.......

Lol thanks. I think I need a new mouse, cause it likes to double click...

The site actually warns you if you double click, to prevent you from double-posting. So if you do this, it's your own fault, not your mouse.

This is correct. Session verification prevents duplicate posting. Double posting, if not outside the editing window (which is a few hours if I'm not mistaken), is entirely on you.

That rule made me think of something else that might be beneficial. Maybe we should put a sticky thread in Recording & Editing Software / Hardware with some general guidelines for making support topics there. In addition to relevant topic titles, things like providing a detailed description of your problem, versions of programs involved, OS, computer specs if applicable, any alternatives you've tried and their results, etc. Also to say things like don't expect help from us if you've obtained any of the software in question illegally (maybe link to this thread), to be respectful of people who are trying to help, follow up with us so we know if your problem is fixed or not, etc. There are a couple of "read first" threads but I don't think any of them discuss this in general.

There've been a lot of people posting simply "this program doesn't work" and we have to work to extract all this information from them. It might help out people who aren't exactly sure what to include, and instead of having to ask for it ourselves we can just link to the guidelines thread.

If you feel like you're up for the task, go ahead and make a topic, since you're one of the ones who's most active in there. If it's good, we'll sticky it.

Someone else said they had this same problem. What browser and version are you using? Its hard to fix it if I can't get it to replicate on my end.

Is foul language allowed outside the forums? Because I don't like when people say strong language to me.
